The training takes one day — you finish the required 8-hour course with a certificate in hand the same day. After you apply, BSIS approval typically takes about 4–6 weeks, mostly the wait on your DOJ and FBI background check. Once BSIS approves you, you can start working right away by carrying a printout of your approval, even before the physical card arrives.
